“I’ll never forget probably the craziest day of my life, close to it,” the “Fast Car” artist began. “It was the best and worst day of my life at the same time. It’s interesting, it’s so hard to wrap your head around it. I woke up in a hotel room in Sydney, Australia, on tour in Australia.”
Recounting the events of that day, Luke said he received a text from his wife saying, “I’m so sorry. I tried so hard not to have the baby while you were away.”
Fighting back tears, the father-of-two, who also has a son, Tex, with Nicole, said it was “really hard” to make sense of it all at the time.
“He was born on the 15th of August in the US so it was pretty awful. I got to be there to watch him be born, which was amazing,” Luke said, appearing to refer to a FaceTime call with his wife. “He wasn’t born yet but my wife went to the hospital and she texted me on the way to the hospital. He was born two and a half weeks early and I was supposed to come home and I couldn’t. … It was really hard but I didn’t tell anybody.”
Luckily, Nicole’s mother was nearby to help her out, and Luke said he’s “so grateful.” Still, the memory is a “defining moment” for the “Beautiful Crazy” singer because it “in a lot of ways encapsulates the worst of the music industry”: the dropouts, the crazy schedules, the bouncing around all over the place.
Because it’s difficult to remember, Like noted, “It’s really hard for me to deal with, so I didn’t feature it much on this album.”
