Who was the real Lady Jane Grey?
The real Jane Grey was the great-niece of Henry VIII and was born in Bradgate, Leicestershire, England in 1537.

The show fictionalizes Jane’s marriage to Guildford Dudley, depicting the two as having fallen in love, although in real life Jane was against the marriage: the Duke of Northumberland arranged it to ensure his son’s place on the throne when Jane ascended to the throne, and persuaded the dying King Edward VI to name her his successor.
Edward VI wanted Jane, a Protestant, to succeed him to prevent the rule of his Catholic sister Mary. Jane’s rule lasted for nine days, after which Mary, who had more popular support, took the throne. Jane was executed on February 12, 1554, after opposing Mary’s Catholic reforms and becoming a potential figure in rebellion.
What is My Lady Jane about?
The series tells the story of Lady Jane Grey, who is forced into marriage and unexpectedly becomes Queen of England.
Jane and her family are left penniless when her patriarchal father bequeaths all his fortune to her uncle, the Duke of Leicester (Broadbent), a rather grotesque old man with old-fashioned ideas about women and a nasty leg.
Jane has no interest in old-fashioned ideas about women and marriage: she wants to be independent.
