vice president Kamala Harris‘The campaign has launched with a new ad. BeyoncéJust days after the 59-year-old Democratic candidate kicked off her campaign, she released a new promo highlighting her areas of focus, including women’s reproductive rights, gun violence and affordable health care.
“In this election, each of us is faced with the question: what kind of country do we want to live in?” Kamala asks in the video, which ends with Donald Trumpcampaign. “Some people think our country should be a country of chaos, hate and fear. But us? We choose to be different. We are free.”
The ad then takes viewers through a montage of the topics Harris plans to focus on.“Freedom not just to survive, but to thrive,” she continues. “Freedom to protect ourselves from gun violence. Freedom to make decisions about our own bodies. We choose a future where no child lives in poverty. We choose a future where everyone has access to health care. We choose a future where no one is above the law.”
“We believe in the American promise, and we are prepared to fight for it,” the vice president added, and concluded, “Because if we fight, we will win.”
Harris raised more than $80 million in donations just 24 hours into her campaign, with many Democrats and celebrities, including the president, endorsing the former prosecutor. Joe Bidendropped out of the presidential race earlier this week.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to seek the nomination and will instead focus my efforts on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden, 81, tweeted on July 21. “My first decision as the 2020 nominee was to select Kamala Harris as my VP, and it was the best decision I have made. Today, I fully endorse and support Kamala to be this year’s party’s nominee.”
President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office in a televised address on Wednesday, July 24. Fresh from recovering from COVID-19, the president told the nation, “I respect this office, but I love this country even more,” adding, “The best way to move forward is to pass the baton to a new generation.”
“It has been the honor of my life to serve this country for 50 years,” said the veteran politician, who served as county councilman, senator, vice president and now president. “The American ideal is in your hands. Keep the faith and never forget who we are. Together, nothing is beyond our capabilities.”
