The 81-year-old politician will take office for a third time alongside his vice president in 2021, soon completing a four-year term. The president has been unable to perform his duties recently due to contracting COVID-19. In a statement released by spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, his physician said, “The president visited the hospital this afternoon complaining of upper respiratory symptoms, including a runny nose and persistent cough, and general fatigue. He was fine for the first event of the day, but as he did not feel better, laboratory testing for COVID-19 was conducted, which tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As a result, the president will self-isolate, following CDC guidance for individuals with symptoms.”
On Sunday, July 21, he not only announced his retirement, approved President Trump has proposed that Vice President Kamala Harris run for the Democratic nomination in the next election, a proposal that has been largely supported by delegates. Harris, 59, made history as the first woman to serve in the White House.
As the Biden-Harris campaign nears the end and Kamala Harris takes over (her running mate has yet to be chosen), the nation will see the president address the nation at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
