Though their marriage didn’t work out, Shields, who called her first husband a “good guy,” said the dress felt like a big “full-circle moment” that was “honoring something,” adding, “I think that’s a healthy thing.”
The first time Shields wore a corseted ivory satin dress was when she was married to the tennis player she divorced before marrying Greer’s father in 1999. Chris Henchyin 2001, but Grier made some changes to the dress to make it her own.
“I had to add a little bit of bone and make it look tight and streamlined,” said Greer, 18, a freshman at Wake Forest University. “I didn’t want it to look too fluffy, so I got rid of all the fluffy stuff. And I made it strapless.”
“She looked amazing in it,” said the star, 59. “It’s a real honour that she wants to wear my work, because normally people don’t think I’m cool.”

In addition to her 1997 wedding dress, the college freshman and IMG model walked the red carpet at the CNN Heroes: All-Star Tribute in a black Richard Tyler dress that Grier wore to the 2006 ball when she was just 6 months old. She also shone brightly earlier that year in her mother’s old gold dress.
