aphex twin and engineer Dave Griffiths launch A “sample mashing” app called Samplebrain. Sound design software converts incoming sounds into similar samples according to pairs. The concept, which I’ve been working on for about 20 years, came after Richard James, aka Aphex, mentioned an idea he had for something like a giant brain that could give you samples. […] It’s about recreating the new sounds you gave it,” says Griffiths.
Aphex summarized the app as follows: statement Via Warp: “What if you could reconstruct the source audio from other mp3/audio selections on your computer? What if you could make a 303 riff out of nothing but a cappella and bubbling mud sounds? What if you could rebuild from ? You can do this with Samplebrain.”
After Shazam came out in 2002, he added: [its] The founders ended up discussing ways to use their genius idea even more creatively, but they were busy creating an automated dj program. He said he thinks “Shazam could be repurposed for something great, but in the meantime there’s Samplebrain.”
