hello everyone. box art brawl!
last week’s quarrelexamined GBA kart classics. mario kart super circuitNorth America and Europe joined forces to take on Japan, winning with a staggering 75% of the vote. It’s clear that the more simplified composition proved to be very popular with our readers, and we resolutely agree.
This week, the SNES version of prince of persia, published by Konami for the system. This 1992 version of his game, with improved visuals and more levels than his original Apple II release, was well received by players and critics.
This week is a full three-way brawl. let’s start!
Vote in the poll below. First, let’s check out the box art design itself.
Europe
The European design for Prince of Persia has a lot in common with the Japanese design, although it has been significantly scaled down to fit into the standard regional box layout. That said, it’s a great piece full of color and detail.
On the flip side though, it’s so truncated that it misses some nice details like the formidable skeletons rising out of what appears to be lava at the bottom. Let’s see!
North America
So the North American variant, hmm… strangeThe prince himself jumps over the title of the game, with an interesting gold pattern in the background. It’s certainly bold, but I’m not quite sure why this was chosen when Japanese/European designs exist.I can’t imagine this being particularly popular with voters.
Japan
The Japanese design is the full image seen in the North American version and shows everything that is missing from the otherwise cropped image. Here the artwork does all the heavy lifting and even the title itself seems to be hidden underneath out of the way of the beautiful image.
We feel like we know how this vote will turn out, but it’s been horribly wrong in the past, so let’s see!
Thank you for voting! See you at the next Box Art Brawl.
