“I didn’t grow up rich. I didn’t come from a wealthy family. But what fashion gave me was an escape into the world of creativity. If I couldn’t afford a Junior Gaultier jacket, I’d buy one off the market and customize it.” – Edward Enninful
Known for his edgy elegance, unconventional approach and prodigious creativity, Edward Enninful, 51, has announced he will step down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue in March 2024.
His declaration, which took many by surprise, drew loving comments from fans and the media praising the Ghanaian-born, London-raised creator for his remarkable contributions to Condé Nast over the past 25 years.
Enninful released a slideshow of all the UK Vogue covers he’s most proud of via his Instagram page, saying:
“Since there are only seven tasks left, @British Vogue, I would like to know which issue was your favorite. Ends March 2024 #British Vogue As editor-in-chief, set the clock. As for the final issue, I’m certainly in planning mode and have a lot going on in my head. Power of the Greatest Global Changers! British unrivaled creativity! And above all fashion! Most of all, I’m excited to see what happens over the next seven months. “
From humble beginnings, his creative acumen brought him to prominence as a model in the ’90s in London before becoming iD magazine’s first and youngest fashion director at just 18.
Edward Enninful has broken numerous glass ceilings throughout his fashion career, including becoming the first man and person of color to be appointed Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue magazine in 2017. After Enninful won the EIC position, we saw more inclusivity and diversity, with celebrities such as Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey and Rihanna gracing the cover of British Vogue magazine.
In the next chapter in Condé Nast, Edward becomes: Global Creative and Cultural Advisor for Vogue, Editorial Advisor for British Media trend.
We wish him the best of luck. And we know he will thrive and thrive as his innovation and risk-taking ability continue to serve as the catalyst for the change we see in the fashion industry.
