From where the Givenchy Fall 2023 Mens began, Creative Director Matthew M. Williams continues the story of Parisian elegance and Cali’s coastal ease meeting the womenswear side of the brand. Returning to his military menswear at the École, the team of Williams and Givenchy showcased a line-up of strong tailoring and femininity.
Subsequent looks featured the same firm tailoring with bold shoulders over overcoats and A-line blazer dresses, before beautiful harmonies of textures (leather, cashmere, chiffon, sequins, velvet) began. rice field. Similar to the menswear line, the Givenchy women’s FW23 is mostly black and black, with poppy-hued mini collections sprinkled throughout.
The show opened with a black waistcoat featuring three box pleats, bold shoulders, and four buttons, in addition to two functional buttons that closed the coat. That assumption isn’t far off. Some of this season’s looks, although ready-to-wear, were made in Givenchy’s couture atelier.
Monochromatic products have a variety of appearances. From tailoring play with proportions to split leather looks to standout evening wear. But Williams shakes things up with conceptual layering that mixes textures and accentuates distress.
Like the Givenchy Fall 2023 Men’s, Matthew M. Williams has found a way to juxtapose the late Hubert de Givenchy’s iconic Parisian maison with his own Californian ethos.
