NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) — Legendary guitarist Jeff Cook, co-founder of supergroup Alabama, has died. he was 73 years old.
Absolute Publicity issued a press release on Tuesday afternoon, announcing Cook’s passing on Monday. The release said he died peacefully at his home on the beach in Destin, Florida, with his friends and family beside him.
Icon had been battling Parkinson’s since being diagnosed with it in 2012.
Cook is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame, and the Fiddler Hall of Fame. He was also a former Gibson Guitarist of the Year.
Over 50 years ago, Cook formed Alabama with cousins Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen. The band sold his 80 million albums and scored 43 of his No. 1 hits, establishing him as one of the most influential country music groups of all time.
Due to ongoing health issues, Cook canceled a tour with Alabama in 2018. Alabama then continued to encourage them by saying they never wanted “the music to stop or the party to end.”
Cook is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa Cook, mother Betty Cook, brothers David Cook, Crystal Cook, father-in-law Jerial Williams, brother-in-law Randy Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews. rice field.
