Netflix’s Jeffrey Dahmer series production assistant says it’s “one of the worst shows I’ve ever worked on.”
Since its launch last month, Dahmer – Monsters: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story sparked controversy.
Dahmer, played by Evan Peters, murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was arrested in his 1991 and murdered in prison three years later.
Production assistant Kim Alsup, who worked on the series, subsequently spoke out against the working conditions on set. .
In a tweet that has since been deleted, indie wireAlsup wrote:
“We both had braids and she was dark skinned and 5’10 tall. I’m 5’5. I took everything I had. I also look at black female leads differently now.”
In a follow-up interview with los angeles timesAlsup spoke further about her time on set.
“This is one of the worst shows I’ve ever worked on,” she said. “I was always called by other people’s names. I was the only black girl who didn’t look like me. 300 Backgrounds I remembered the names of her extras.”
She called the experience “exhausting.”
Alsup has stated that he wants to avoid watching the series for fear “it will bring back too many memories of working on it.”
“The trailer itself gave me PTSD. That’s what led me to write that tweet, and I didn’t think anyone would read it.”
Independent reached out to a Netflix representative for comment.
Since the show’s release in September, Since then, Dahmer victims have spoken out against that. Rita Isbell, whose brother Errol was murdered by Dahmer; monsterwas one of those who criticized Netflix.
Isbelle said that seeing her on screen made her feel “I want to do it all over again”.
“I think Netflix should have asked if we cared or how we felt about making it. ‘ said Isbell.
“It’s sad that they are making money out of this tragedy. It’s just greed.”
