Since the early 70’s, artists have found new and creative ways to remove their visuals. In other words, traditional music videos with crazy choreos are no longer winners of the Video Vanguard.
Enter an artist who goes beyond the standard music video and creates a short film that supports an entire album instead. Like Prince’s “Purple Rain,” the delightfully adventurous “Spice World,” and most recently, Machine Gun Kelly’s Dark His Teen Romance, “Downfalls High.”
Then comes Kid Cudi, the Moon Man who always seems to do something a little different. Traditional music His video is too short to tell the story of his latest album, but so is the film. Cudi instead offers an entire limited series to define the narrative of his album Entergalactic.
Released on Netflix, Entergalatic is an animated series that follows the main character, Jabari (voiced by Cudi), as he nurtures life, especially love. From an ex-girlfriend who starts ringing her cell phone again, a new neighbor to worry about, a few friends to show her the way, awkward moments, a chance encounter at a strange party, and a bike on the spot, Jabari’s life. is vivid. Tricks and, of course, romance.
It begins on a dreary moving day for our protagonist, who has recently landed a new job and a dream apartment in Manhattan. But in cities of millions, he still comes across his ex. Good things rarely come from running into old loves, and things only get worse when Jabari meets and falls in love with her charming neighbor. His 90 minutes that follow show how Jabari handles, and sometimes mishandles, new successes and new love.
The vivid storytelling is enhanced by spacey beats, heartfelt lyrics, and a 15-track album of signature Kid Cudi hums. Throughout the first episode, hear the real-life cast of Cudi and famous friends like Timothée Chalamet, who plays Jabari’s weed-dealing best friend, and Ty Doll Sain, who plays another of Jabari’s friends. Other guest voices include Jessica Williams, Vanessa Hudgens and even the iconic Keith David.
Entergalaic touches on the theme of new beginnings, letting go and embracing love, and the beauty that comes from chasing the girl you like on your bike during rush hour in New York. This is the kind of meet-cute series you can use right now to remind you that romance isn’t dead.
just kidding! Seriously, Entergalactic is a feast for the eyes and ears. An animation reminiscent of the groundbreaking Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse An engaging story with a beautiful soundtrack aspect, all told in his style. What more could you ask of Mr. Rager?
Stay tuned for the second episode of the Entergalatic series. We know it will!
