Matt Burns Spit on fiancée’s ex-boyfriend during heated argument at Sunday’s Cowboys vs. 49ers game — Video, Available at: TMZSportsShaw – But the former NBA champion claimed the man started it all, threatened him, and pushed him.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m., just before the playoff contest began at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara… when Burns ran into her fiancée’s ex-husband. David Patterson Jr.in the concourse of the venue.
In the footage, Burns can be seen spat on the man – before he later gets in the man’s face.
The clip shows the two exchanging words and participating in a small wrestling match. Thankfully, the two separated and walked in different directions.
The NBA star alleges Patterson Jr. was the perpetrator in this situation, according to a temporary civil restraining order application that Burns filed in LA County court two days after the incident.
In court documents, Burns said Patterson Jr. “hunted me down and aggressively confronted me.” He said a 37-year-old man shouted profanity and threats at him, called his name, and incited the crowd around him to “keep going wild by repeatedly shouting my full name.”
Burns added that Patterson Jr. eventually “pushed me away and I was forced to push him away from me.” He continued, “I don’t want the quarrel to escalate any further physically, and out of frustration at his wanting of me, and his relentless and repeated harassment, I find myself in disgust.” I spit in his direction.
Police tell us they were called to the scene to investigate the battery allegations — they say they identified 42-year-old Barnes as the suspect. He said the investigation was still ongoing.
Regarding Barnes’ TRO request, he said Patterson Jr. had been terrorizing him for months. He is asking the court to restrict Patterson Jr. from coming within 100 yards of him.
Barnes, who played three seasons in the Bay Area for the Golden State Warriors in his NBA career, appeared to carry on Sunday night without further incident. He seemed to be in good spirits.
