After 35 years of marriage, Michael J. Fox and his wife, Tracy Pollan, still falling in love. In this actor’s new Apple TV+ documentary, Still: The Films of Michael J. Fox, he opened up about the relationship and showed how supportive Tracy is in the midst of his grueling Parkinson’s disease. Michael was diagnosed with the disease in 1991, just three years into his marriage. When he broke the news to Tracy, he recalled her whispering, “In sickness and in health.” She has held on to that vow for over 30 years.
“Tracy is the smartest person I know,” Michael admitted. “She has learned to cope with many things. I don’t just share with her, I take on more than I take on. Everything I go through, she goes through.”
The documentary showed footage of Tracy attending Michael’s examination. She listened intently as they discussed his medicines and treatments, sometimes offering her two cents. There’s also footage of Michael enjoying his downtime with Tracy and his four children, giving us a glimpse into what family life is like. The actor praised his family for not being devastated by the disease on a daily basis. “When you’re with your family, it’s not like, ‘Poor baby, I feel your pain, you’re a saint among men,'” Michael said. “It would be the worst.”
Michael also revealed that Tracy and her family were the reason he decided to quit drinking in 1992. He said he drank to “disconnect” from Parkinson’s disease and to “run away” from it. But after a particularly long night of partying, something clicked. “[Tracy] He was indifferent to my plight,” Michael explained. “‘Is this what you want?’ she said. ‘Is this what you want to be?’ She has never been so scared in her life.” ”
He described the first few years of sobriety as “fighting with knives” and, unable to face things at home, began taking on film roles in other parts of the world. “Tracy was going through so much and she was really at her limit,” Michael said. “Well, we had twins. I had to go back to my family.” Then he “made up.” [his] ]Decided to return to TV. spin city. “The schedule matched our family rhythms perfectly,” he added.
The documentary also covered the early days of Michael and Tracy’s relationship.they met when she starred family tiesMichael remembered the moment he fell in love with her. It happened when we shot a scene together after our lunch break. “The moment she said her first line, I smelled a little bit of garlic, so I took the opportunity to sacrificing her to enjoy her a little bit,” he said. “‘A little scampi for lunch, baby?’ At first she said nothing. Her expression didn’t change. But she looked me in the eye and said slowly, ‘That’s mean and you’re a total asshole.” Nobody spoke to me like that. This woman was not at all intimidated by who she thought she was. A pig is a pig no matter how many hits she has. She was joking, but she didn’t understand me. Because no one would tell me such a joke. I never hated any jokes. She went through it and called out to me. In that moment I fell in love with her. ”
He gushed that he was “the person I love the most” when he and Tracy finally got together, adding, “I still do.” Michael also praised Tracy for her honesty. “She’s so honest that she’s locked in there for who she is,” he says. “I could be King of England and she could be her. I could be Elvis and she could be her.”
