Sylvester Stallone has revealed that his longtime friend Arnold Schwarzenegger tricked him into appearing in the ’90s debacle.
Stallone said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter His one-time nemesis is in the movie Stop!
“I heard Schwarzenegger was going to be in that movie, so I said, ‘I’m going to beat him up,'” the 76-year-old star said. “I think he set me up.”
The writer-actor-director was describing some of his underperforming films when he named the 1992 film in which he co-starred with the late Estelle Getty.
“‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot’ was supposed to be something like ‘Throw Momma From the Train’, but as this really awful piece, it was the mother,” Stallone told the magazine. “Instead, hire the nicest woman in Hollywood, Estelle Getty. I want her to be your mother. That’s it!”
Thirty years later, the “Rocky” star’s suspicions over his friends’ ruse have been confirmed.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Schwarzenegger to ask if he actually hyped up the film and pretended to be interested in making his rival a dud in the film.
“It’s 100% true,” Schwarzenegger wrote in reply. “At the time we did all sorts of crazy things to get the upper hand in our rivalry. Luckily for us and everyone else today, we’re rooting for each other. Thank God or mama will shoot
The pair of 1980s action heroes are on good terms and still seek kinship with each other.
