That’s the silk press for me! Actor Kiki Palmer takes a look at Vice President Kamala Harris’ signature silk-pressed hairstyle and how she keeps it dry.
Kamala Harris is an easier person to empathize with than we might think, as she revealed all the secrets of her silk press method we wanted to know. “Silk press” is a term within the black community to refer to rough hair during straightening, and it was comforting to know that the Vice President of the United States enjoys the wash and silk press as her signature.
Actor Kiki Palmer traveled to the White House to interview Vice President Kamala Harris on an episode of the podcast episode “Baby, It’s Kiki Palmer,” and Silk Press’ questions couldn’t be ignored. Palmer asked Harris, “How many times a month do you get silk pressed?”
Palmer was shocked when the vice president declared that he doesn’t always use heated styling tools to style his hair, as some might think. She explained how she uses a round brush that can absorb heat and keep her hair straight.
Palmer told Vice President Harris that she and another celebrity known for her silk press are vying for the title of best haircut. She exclaimed Palmer, “You and Queen Latifah are close, you give her everything!”
They are in awe of Vice President Harris’ silk-pressing habits, and it’s safe to say they feel an even greater affinity for her as a black woman in power.
