Spoiler alert: This interview contains season 2 spoilers.white lotusis streaming on HBO Max.
Most of the characters in Season 2 of “The White Lotus” have their problems, and Daphne is no exception. But a wealthy and confident mother Megan Faye, focus on the positive and don’t let her husband’s blatant infidelity bring her down. In fact, she could be fooling herself — it looks like a coping mechanism — and she owns it.
in the meantime Sunday season finaleher husband’s fanatical college roommate and travel companion Ethan (Will Sharpe) confronts her with a rather disturbing allegation: he believes his wife Harper (Aubrey Plaza) is cheating on Cameron (Theo Marshall). I think I had sex with James. One of the best scenes in the entire series, Daphne is momentarily upset, indicated only by a momentary look of disappointment and a change in her mouth, and tells Ethan that sometimes it’s okay not to know everything your spouse does. She then invites him to a nearby island.
it is not clear what they are doing Did it Interlude—but We asked Sharp what he thought — but it eventually leads to Harper and Ethan having sex again, and both couples leave Sicily and seem happy.
Here, Fahy breaks down her thoughts about the finale, Daphne and Ethan’s field trip, and more.
Why do you think Daphne is so likable despite being perhaps the most manipulative character on the show?
I don’t think her behavior is bad. I think she’s empathetic in a way that’s kind of unexpected. When you meet Daphne for the first time, you really think she’s just a passive housewife and she doesn’t do much. And I think someone’s also hilarious like Daphne, basically telling this girl, She doesn’t even know well that her own son could belong to her own trainer and not her husband. I think the dynamics that are created within that space make her a really interesting character.
Let’s talk about that moment. Do you think Daphne knew that she was showing Harper a picture of her kids instead of her trainer?
I absolutely do. I hope there were no accidents. I think that whole speech and that picture and all that was very intentional.
Cameron made faces in the mirror when Daphne called him to talk to the kids. Do you think Cameron knows they might not be his kids?
I doubt it, but I love the look. Obviously when we filmed it I couldn’t see what he was doing. I thought it was really creepy and cool to be there.
I asked Will what he thought happened between Daphne and Ethan. What do you think?
What did Will say?
I don’t want to tell you!this is obviously subject to interpretation But what are your thoughts?
I’m sure something happened. I’m not sure what exactly happened, but I’m pretty sure it was something. Honestly, at that moment, I think Daphne wanted to see this broken man and do something more empowering to him in her own weird way. I really don’t think it led him there. Someone said something very interesting the other day. Do you think part of Daphne’s grief is due to her betrayal from Harper? completelyI think she went through this with Cameron how many times she knows, but I think she thought Harper was probably her friend or wanted to be her. and talk about how he struggles to keep female friends and stuff. So I guess that was part of that experience but yeah what happened I don’t know if I can say exactly what it is, but I think it’s definitely sexual.
Do you think cheating made their marriage stronger in some way? It’s so strange to think, but did Daphne and Cameron save Harper and Ethan’s marriage?
I think it’s a really interesting parallel to draw. In the end, I think what you basically have is Ethan like, “What have you done?” Before that, Harper said: you conduct? “Then they fight about it, and it’s like getting them back together and reconnecting them in this way they longed to reconnect. So, finally, to Cameron and Daphne I think it’s kind of funny that such a dynamic ghost that exists is what sets Harper back.
As for who “won” the season, many people think it’s Mia (Beatrice Grano), but some say it’s Daphne. What do you think?
interesting!I totally understand why they say Mia because she was the one who walked in and said ‘all I want is to play the piano’ and she said ‘I’m playing the piano now’ It felt so good to see her accomplish her thing, and so did Lucia. [Simona Tabasco]She got the money!
Daphne gave such a great speech at Ethan’s finale. What did you think of her statement that you don’t have to know someone perfectly?
I remember reading it and thinking how special it was – because it’s really true. You can spend every second with someone and still know everything about that person. You can’t. And maybe that’s not the point. Someone said the other day that Esther Perel said something like, “The key to liking passion is mystery.” It takes a little bit of that to keep someone interested over the years. It’s interesting to analyze.
How was that shoot?
I did a lot of scenes with Will, but I only got the chance to actually do one scene. I actually just spoke to his face, but he impressed me so much when we shot that scene. He is a very active listener and I felt very present. And I’m just like, ‘Wow, is this how it feels like I’m sitting across from you when you’re not talking?
The facial expressions you make in that scene are incredible. Express more emotion on your face in 10 seconds than most people do in a monologue.
Well, Mike White is one of the best directors you can imagine working with. I think he just said it really takes time. And like I said, Will was so lovely that I felt a connection with him.Mike was very specific with his notes and such. It wasn’t really a scene I had pre-planned because I knew that I had worked well enough with Mike at that point that I would have been better off just showing up without doing much, thinking about it. My head of what I wanted. I just wanted to find out with you.
How many takes did it take?
i don’t remember. I was never impatient with the mic, but I never felt like we were screwing everything up. Sometimes when you’re on set, the director says, “This pisses me off,” when he wants to do one thing for 15 takes. But he never did it. I always do a few takes, then change the lens size and move on. The pace on set was always very good.
How was filming in Sicily? How were you all connected?
There were a lot of group dinners in the beginning as the hotel wasn’t running at full capacity. So you can eat it in the hotel, but it was like a limited menu. We were so excited to be there that we wanted to go explore, but there wasn’t much open. There were only a few places, so the group dinner was our first foray into cast bonding and things evolved from there. I think dinner was the original connective tissue.
Who is the life of the party?
Theo for sure. Me too!and when Leo [Woodall] Got there, he was there too. Come on, Theo and Leo!
We could see Beatrice singing a lot. Obviously, it’s no secret that you can sing. Was there any discussion about Daphne having a karaoke night to showcase her singing voice?
No, I don’t think anyone on the show knew I sang it! Can you imagine? What will be Daphne’s karaoke song? Someone asked me that and I thought it was Beyoncé’s “Ego.” That’s a good thing!
Last question. Who is more likely to have a happy ending? Daphne or Sutton, your character in ‘The Bold Type’?
Probably Daphne! She is so enthusiastic about having it. She makes choices and Daphne carries out the choices she makes. So I believe she will find her way in. Sutton is a little too emotional!
