2023 is here. You know what that means. It’s a new year’s resolution. It also means that many diet cultures are being forced upon us from all angles. “New Year: A New You” everywhere you turn.
We talked about going with a New Year’s theme, but some of us might want to work on some solutions and lock it out.
in a small way.
Without the noise of toxic diet culture. If you’re looking for some resolution, these 10 New Year’s resolutions might be perfect for you!
in no particular order,
Here are 10 New Year’s resolutions that have nothing to do with weight loss
1) It’s okay if you’re not included/invited
In the age of social media, it’s very easy to get a case of FOMO (Afraid to miss)How many times have you looked at people and thought to yourself “Wait…why didn’t you tell me!?”
Sometimes you find yourself in unwelcome and uncomfortable situations. Also, people may really forget to tell you.
This New Year’s resolution requires you to learn that it’s okay to not be included in every aspect of someone’s life.
Even so, you now know your place in that person’s life. It’s up to you to act accordingly.
2) Do things yourself
Missed the movie you wanted to see? Missed out on great airline deals? you know why? You were waiting for your friends, so they bailed out at the last minute.
Think about art show openings, concerts, trips, and all the other things someone wanted you to go with and didn’t go to… again? You never know what you can learn about yourself by taking a chance and doing something alone!
life is too short to miss. Please take that trip alone. Please try that new restaurant. To tell you the truth, you can find someone to take pictures for you and create new memories. No one waits for time.
keep it up!
3) Say no and mean it
No, it’s a complete sentence. It’s hard to say no. The boundaries we have learned to set for ourselves often come with a pile of guilt. Book, set boundaries and find peace By Nedra Tawaab is a great place to learn how to set boundaries for yourself and others.
So I often regret saying “yes” before the other person hangs up. As soon as you hit send text. You end up trying to find a way out of it.
Why bother?
If you know you don’t want to do something, say no and stick to it. Are people upset? of course! But it’s not worth spending your energy in fear of the task at hand.
To be fair, it also gives the person on the receiving end a chance to understand other options.
This applies to family, friends, work, and anyone else you want to say no to!
I’m just saying no.
4) Do what you’ve always dreamed of
Ever wanted to do stand-up comedy? Want to become an influencer? start a business? Well what are you waiting for?
The worst thing that can happen is that it doesn’t work as intended. The best that can happen is that it works and you wonder why it didn’t take the leap.
You’ll never know what the journey will reveal about you and your purpose if you don’t give yourself a chance to explore…
Finally, at least you tried. That’s the most important thing.
5) go to therapy
This is the most personal of your New Year’s resolutions… Trauma isn’t your fault. But you are responsible for your healing.
The thought of opening up to a complete stranger can be daunting. Having to revisit a traumatic situation in your life can be terrifying.
But a therapist can show you the way to a better place—a place where you learn how to grow, not just survive.
It doesn’t have to be a product of the past!
As someone who has had to walk the road to therapy, learn different tools to help them through tough times, and work to work on their shadow self, it’s been tough, but very rewarding.
6) Evaluate friendship
Should old acquaintances be forgotten?
Sometimes YES!!
We all have friends that feel like lifelong. Sometimes that friend isn’t the best. Yet, they have been around for so long that they have a hard time letting go. Sometimes, as I have learned, “You will be bigger than your friends.”
When someone asked me why I was friends with him, I replied, “We’ve known each other for a long time!” It may be time to really think about what that person means to you.
time won’t It always equals a relationship of value. Someone you met a month ago is likely to do more to you emotionally than someone you met when you were 2 years old.
It’s okay to go beyond your friends. Don’t force yourself to feed on stale friendships that expired years ago.
7) Let go of your bad family too!
Speaking of relationships, it’s okay to stop hanging out with people in your family who abuse you and make you feel inferior to yourself.
Do you have cousins who are rude every time you see them? An aunt who likes to be reminded of things you haven’t worked on? Do you have an uncle who makes you uncomfortable?
Establish those boundaries and protect your peace…
Just because they’re in a relationship with you doesn’t mean you’re obligated to be around them.
This is the same with parents. You don’t deserve to be abused by anyone.
8) Get out of your fashion comfort zone
If you’re shopping online and see something you love to wear, buy it.
Don’t wait to lose a few pounds.
Don’t wait for an opportunity.
Don’t worry about other people’s opinions.
If it brings you joy, wear it. If you want to try something new, do it. You never know what you can unlock by giving yourself the space to explore your own style. Confidence, boldness, playfulness – each of these can manifest when you give yourself space to play with a particular item in your closet.
9) Take more pictures.
We get so caught up in our self-consciousness that we miss being a part of great memories.
Are you worried about whether you look bad?
whether it can be edited.
Perfect photo or not.
None of them matter.
Everyone wants to look back and remember you were there. Stop hiding! life is short
Jump to every photo you can!
If it helps, take the time to learn which poses work best for you – where poses draw a certain confidence and energy from you!
10) Spend time doing what you’re passionate about.
After a long day at work, it’s hard to find the energy for extra activity, especially if it’s a job you don’t like.
people like to say “Beyoncé in the same 24 hours and see what she’s done!”
It’s never realistic.
Beyoncé has a lot of money and a team. You’re fine… you. You have time to do what you love.
buy planner (Or find something great online!) and schedule. Writing down what you’re actually doing will help you know you have time.
Instead of scrolling through social media for hours, spend that time doing what you’re passionate about.
