Shopping as a plus size person over 3X can be very difficult. Big brands rarely include sizes. This is where indie brands have contributed significantly to the plus size community. They meet a market need that many big brands don’t touch.
So what we’ve done is put together an indie brand that you should know about and that includes some sizes that have been on our radar for a while! It shows a variety of personal styles, from simple to alternative and playful!
10 size indie brands know
1. Terrance Williams Designs
Owner Terrance Williams is a self-taught sewer and offers clothing and accessories with sustainability in mind. His dusters and caftans are breathtaking thanks to the unique fabrics used. The best part is that they are made to order based on the customer’s measurements.
On his website, he describes his designs as size-inclusive and genderless. Terrance, “I wanted to create a brand where inclusivity is at the forefront. Fashion is very exclusive and exclusive. I wanted to create a safe space where people could feel beautiful in my clothes and accessories. A person wearing an extended size should never feel burdened.”
2. ShopTaby and Taby Originals
ShopTaby was started by Taby Davila, a curvaceous Latina who felt underrepresented in the plus-size fashion space. She wanted to create a space where people of all marginalized identities felt represented.
The design is bright and colorful, and the sizes range from XS to 5X, with plans to expand to XXS to 6X in the future. Due to size restrictions in the wholesale market, Taby Originals uses original designs.
Tabby said: “Sometimes I feel like this little human being has this big responsibility, but I believe I am the change we see in the world. When we are told or told it won’t work, we are reminded to keep changing one design at a time to change the fashion industry for the better. I hope that it will be a bridge that brings us together better.”
3. shine naturally
Alex and Tianshi are co-founders of Shiny By Nature. As a plus-sized woman in her own right, Alex always struggled to find colorful, fun clothes in her own size.
Through his own experience making music albums, Tianshi learned about product creation, sourcing, and marketing. Her passion for fashion and his logistics experience are a perfect match!

Four. Lauren of Palm Springs
Lauren in Palm Springs is inspired by old Hollywood.They offer fluid and glamorous items made for him, her, or them. “TOO GOOD IS WONDERFUL!”

Five. Evan Bidell

Nerecina’s goal is to change the way women shop by creating attractive and unique designs in luxurious fabrics, eliminating categories and ideals, and offering customization options for every item sold. .
Their formalwear, including their sizing, is stunning and comes in custom sizes based on customer measurements.
7. peridot robe
Peridot Robes offers loungewear including ethical and sustainable sizes in sizes XL-7X. All of their robes are made from leftover fabric in a fair wage sewing room in Los Angeles. “Every fat baby deserves love and comfort. We prioritize members of our community who have no other options available.”
8. trash queen
Paige is the owner of Trash Queen, where she designs, creates patterns and prints, sketches collections and styles her pieces. She wants to change the lives of plus size, disabled and LGBTQ people in relation to fashion.
Paige also wants to continue adding variety to her clothing. We’re adding sizes, we’re adding petite and tall ranges, and we’ll add custom sizes one day.Paige’s partner, Alison, handles mail, quality assurance, fulfillment, and shipping.
Trash Queen’s items are made to order and those that aren’t are made in small batches to create a more sustainable and slow fashion. “Fashion isn’t one size fits all. But the incredible moment of looking in the mirror and feeling completely yourself is what we all deserve.” The Trash Queen comes in sizes XS to 5X.
9. softcore
Miranda Sharp is the creator of Softcore, which carries sizes XL-5X. Softcore is an alternative lifestyle brand for plus size individuals of all genders. She created the design herself including all sizes.
Miranda says: “I wanted to create a line that prioritizes and celebrates fat people, especially weird fat people like me. Fat people are portrayed very centrally in the media. I wanted to show fat people that we have all sorts of interests and that we can be alternative fashion icons! and make clothes. We can stand out and be the protagonists of our own stories.
