performer | | Anna Torv
spectacle, show, play | | HBO’s Last of Us
episode | | “infected”(January 22, 2023)
performance | | To say that Torv made the most of her short time Last of Us That would be a pretty understatement. In just two episodes, fringe Vet has created such a complex and multidimensional character that we were truly heartbroken when Tess was killed during Sunday’s tense hour.
Even though two decades of dystopian life had hardened Tess’ outer shell, Tove always remained tethered to the underlying humanity of her alter ego. The actress brought that her quiet vulnerability to the fore in the final act of “Infected,” where Tess is initially unknown to viewers.
When his apocalyptic accomplice Joel bandaged his wounded leg, she felt a faint warmth when he refused to see the apocalyptic glass half full. To the frustration she unleashed, Torff subtly shifted Tess’ energy from rogue survivalist to rogue. Live on borrowed time.
And when Tess revealed about her terminal condition, Torv destroyed all her character’s self-defense walls in one fell swoop. I begged you to go through and save yourself (and humanity). “I ask nothing of you. Don’t feel the way I felt…” she exclaimed, with Tolf layering each anguished word with 20 years of complicated romantic baggage. “This is your chance. You get her there. You keep her alive. And you set everything right.”
Tess ultimately saved the day, but Tove was the true hero of the episode.
honorable mention | | early this season, Leverage: Redemption For Sophie, he hinted at a complicated past with a daughter-like existence. So when it was revealed last week that ruthless Interpol inspector Astrid was her alleged stepdaughter, she was, frankly, underwhelmed. only paved the way for TRUE As series veterinarians, move us Gina Bellman and guest star Alexandra Park (royals) each let down a wall of characters. Park really impressed us when a stone-cold Astrid held her elusive stepmother at gunpoint. As if looking back on memories, Bellman in the women’s closing scene was very sweet and exuded the warmth of motherhood.
