What is your first memory of reading manga?
Paco Medina: When I was little, I remember waiting excitedly for my father to come home from work in the evening. My dad was my hero when I was little, he always came home with newspapers and comic books, so he had a lot of fun. That was my first encounter with comics.he will tell you how i met him too Jack “The King” Kirby during those years. Early Sunday morning on Mexican TV, marvel superhero [animated series] It was amazing for me to watch each episode and get to know each and every Marvel character that Kirby portrayed.I swear it was a unique experience for me and my brother. iron man I also remember having an Iron Man toy that was my favorite of all.In late adolescence, I became an aspiring collector spiderman When x men.
What was your favorite Marvel character or creator when you were a kid?
Paco Medina: What was your favorite book when you were young? John Byrne upon Uncanny X-Men and spiderman books John Romita Jr., Sal Buscema, Todd McFarlane When Eric Larsen. Joe Quesada When Jim Lee Come on, it blew my mind.
When and how did you decide to become a manga artist as a profession?
Paco Medina: I have always been interested in drawing, and that interest led me to meet a friend who is a manga superfan. The most important and decisive person in accepting this industry was my friend and brother. Juan BlascoHe infected me with his tremendous love for comics and definitely became a mentor. What was your early work in comics like?
Paco Medina: My first works were several publications I did independently with some old friends from high school. So, little by little, I started getting involved in other publications with larger print runs, such as wrestler comics and other smaller publications. [contributions] For Mexican publishers.
How did you first get on Marvel’s radar?
Paco Medina: Maybe you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. I think I was both naive and bold at the time.This is from the early 2000s.
I worked in DC for several years. There was also a slump in my work, and I think I was at a somewhat complicated crossroads in my personal life. Just like that, I picked up a Marvel comic book and wrote down the address in an envelope with a copy of my work along with a letter to Joe Quesada, and a few months later I found Joe himself Marvel received an invitation to join his family. You can imagine that not only was he surprised that he knew me, but he loved the way Joe did it. [treated me] and his kindness.
What was it like working with the NEW X-Men writers? Craig Kyle When Chris Yost?
Paco Medina: Yes Yes! It was a time of many emotions. I was going through a complicated situation, partly because things were not going well at home, but again Juan Blasco was very supportive of me. The script was great and I remember Juan and I spending a lot of time together talking about what to do while working on it.Craig and Chris’ script was perfect for narration, so it was a great process [visually]. What do you think was the first high-profile launch you worked on for Marvel?
Paco Medina: I think it was X-Men #1 From the “Curse of the Mutants” arc Victor ZishlerI think it was the first time I felt a greater responsibility, and I think it was the first time I felt I had to do more and better and surpass myself. After a few hours of sleep, I remember sleeping on the carpet near my desk to continue working.
