GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Creation, Destruction, Reflection, a series of 20 intricately carved vases in DeVos Place, showcases ancient landmarks from the Temple of Delphi to the streets of Jerusalem and is priced at $12,500. ArtPrize 2022 Artist to Artist Award.
Created by brothers Brad and Brian Caviness of Brown’s Summit, North Carolina, the work was one of 16 artists and venues to win the award at the ArtPrize closing ceremony held at Studio Park in downtown Grand Rapids on Friday. .
The artist-to-artist award was the biggest cash prize at this year’s event.
Other prizes ranged from $2,500 to $10,000.
Creation, Destruction, Reflection was a hit at this year’s event, drawing large crowds to explore historic scenes carved into clay vases.

On their website, the brothers write that their art stimulates their interest in history and their appreciation of the monumental achievements of art and architecture, draws attention to the destruction of ancient sites, It combines the talents of art and design that generate interest in the conservation of What is still here, whether threatened by the slow march of time, natural disasters, or war.
“We start by creating interpretive reproductions of ancient pottery,” the brothers said on their website. In addition, we put clay in the volume of the urn to create a panoramic view of the site and visually connect the cultural artifacts with the place.”
