Catch of PHEELZ by Designers Tasha & Simeon Akinbulumo
A beautiful day at Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria. We are preparing creative spaces for the arrival of Fales. I wanted him to feel artistic energy and freedom while filming. Pheelz arrived and his designer, Tasha, guided him through his wardrobe, showing him custom apparel with his artwork on it. Fields then offered a big hug and a smile. Pheelz is not only a phenomenal producer and music artist, he is also a creative artist with amazing artwork. We want to jump into this interview to answer all the questions you had about Pheelz.
Introduce yourself to people who may not know who you are?
I’m Pheelz, a music producer, artist and creative genius.
Where did the name “Fields” come from?
It all started with my chemistry teacher calling me “Pheel”, and Olamide added a “z” to it to make it Pheelz, so I just stuck with it.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria
What inspires you?
my life in general. God, the universe and people inspire me.
When was the last time you were big and people thought you were famous?
I feel like I haven’t realized it yet, because that kind of realization pops into my head. So I choose to see myself as a human being, live my life and tell my story through songs. No matter where you go, that’s fine. I just want to see myself the same as everyone else — a human lived life.
You are a legend, the driving force behind unforgettable songs… What sparked your interest in producing?
I wanted to make music for the songs I was writing. I started writing poetry when I was young, turning those poems into lyrics, and then I wanted to turn my lyrics into music, so I started producing.
Which is your first love as an artist or your first love as a producer?
Being an artist in reality. But he wanted to make beats to go along with the songs he was writing, which initially made him brighter as a producer. So being an artist was my first love.
You’ve worked with just about anyone an artist or producer would want to work with, who would you rather work with?
Now I have a long list of people I want to work with. Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Drake, Rosalia, Adele, Billie Eilish… everyone at this point.
Describe your fashion style and influence.
My fashion style is comfort first. Whatever you wear should be comfortable. I like to dress according to my mood and I don’t follow any rules. I don’t believe in rules or boxes. Put comfort first and dress the way you feel.
How was the experience working with designer Tasha on this shoot?
It was fun working with her… good energy. Plus, I like the looks and vibe. For me it was all about the energy and atmosphere!
Tell us something we don’t know about you… What’s your favorite food?
My favorite food right now is amara. Recently, it has become a very important item in my life. It used to be beans and plantains, now it’s amara.
How do you prepare for the show?
I dress fly as the fuck Do some jumping jacks or push-ups to get the blood pumping to your heart and brain.
What’s your favorite song you’ve produced or written?
There is a song called “Baline” that will be released this year. I can’t wait to share it with the world.
What’s the story behind the chart-topping single ‘Finesse’?
I was making beats in the studio with a newly signed producer named Miichkel. When he played the beat, I thought it sounded dope. So, I put the melody, lyrics, and layers into the chorus. That’s how “finesse” was born.
I would like to know about RiiTribe and RiiCollective.
A Triibe is a group of people who support me. Everyone who listens to my music and supports this journey. RiiCollective is a creative space to express yourself through other art forms. When he’s not making music, he spends his time doing graphics and motion design.
From Dr Dre to ChainSmokers to Usher to French Montana and many more. & When will your album be released?
My debut album will be released soon. But for now, my next project is an EP that will be released next year. With the single “Ballin” he ends the year. Can’t wait to release it to the world.
Do you have any advice for future producers and music artists?
Everyone’s journey is different, so I don’t like giving advice. But what I’m trying to say is, appreciate the valleys because the mountains make sense.
