“I’ve said it many times and am eternally grateful to @springsteen, @mightymaxweinberg and everyone. e street band For shooting me in the dark when I was 18 — to undertake a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bury for my father.
“Rather than learning hundreds of songs and playing nearly four hours each night, E street A work ethic that made an indelible impression on me. The vertical learning curve left me with a life lesson and a skill set that I’ve applied to everything I’ve done since then.
“Every day on tour, Blues On our way to the venue to rehearse at soundcheck, he gave us a list of five new songs. It’s likely that two of her or three of her will be on set that night. Shake the house, head to the next city and repeat.
“Always in the right place at the right time, the amazing @dannybones64 caught this moment in the middle of that process about 14 years ago. A powerful reminder that it never ended.
“It’s still very inspiring to see how the rock and roll giants have devoted themselves to their craft, and after almost 50 years it’s always been refined, honed and grown. and will remain for the rest of my life.
“Excited to see them resume slowing down on stage in a month’s time.”
3 years ago, jay said to “Spittin’ Chiclet” Podcast asked to fill out for his dad Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band “It was completely insane. I didn’t expect it to happen, but the stars lined up like that and it was just like ‘the right place at the right time,'” he said.
“I was the last child in the world [THE E STREET BAND]’ he continued. They then reunited in his 1999, which included the kids in the band, actually my sister. She got up a few times and played keyboards with them. And all the children got up and played guitars and so on. I was the only one who didn’t go on stage because I was scared to death. If I was messing up the drums, you can’t bring me down with a mix or anything like that. it would be devastating.
“That summer when I graduated from high school, [of 2008], they were playing some shows at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. ” jay Said. “The old Giants was his stadium, but it was demolished and a new stadium was built. So his dad was like, ‘Oh, you should play a song with us at soundcheck.’ .” and did so. Blues It was like, “Hey, that was pretty good.” Why don’t we play it on the show tonight?’ I was so nervous, but I wanted to do it, and I wanted to rise to the occasion and be like, ‘Okay’. , you don’t have to do it again. You can say you did it.so i played that song ‘Born to run’ With them that night, it worked. So I could put my hat on it and that was it. However, months later, they were hit with this scheduling conflict. “Conan” program [where Max served as the bandleader]they all moved to California, “The Tonight Show”And the show was scheduled to be an hour early and taped in California. It was a really big change for the show, so my dad had to be there for the start of that show.I think the first show will be like June 1st of that year. Blues I happened to be booked on a European tour starting May 31st, and my dad suddenly had to go to two places at the same time. And then they got together and said, “Hey, when you have to go to a TV show, you have to figure out what to do when you need someone on stage.”
“I have known all these people since childhood – these are all my uncles: steve When Gary When Clarence [and] Danny, of course.now Danny passed. But this is like my extended family, and I think Bruce asked my dad a paternal question. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band BluesLike, “Do you think? jay do you want it? Do you think he’ll crack under that pressure?’ And I think my dad was like, ‘I don’t know. we’re going to find
“So yeah, I remember Blues Called me and asked if I wanted to. I couldn’t believe it, but he basically sent me a list of things like ‘okay’. He starts learning these hundreds of songs and starts there and adds from there. And that’s what we did. For about a year I stood in for my father that way. ”
jay His first performance is also reflected in detail springsteenheld at Giants Stadium in August 2008.
“It was a complete ‘fight or flight’ moment. Everything goes numb,” he said. “You just turn it off and let your subconscious mind. At that point, I had only been playing the drums for three years. So it was a lot of pressure, but I passed out and played. , and finally, when it was over, I couldn’t believe it happened…and it worked…if it was total shit, I couldn’t believe it We could have done it, but it worked. We played that song, and I think people enjoyed it. — it was so silly to watch that I don’t think I could even comprehend that it was actually happening.”
