DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn posted on Twitter that he saw many tweets calling for “#SaveLegendsofTomorrow” and “#ReleaseTheAyerCut” and wanted to share it. The studio’s initial focus is on “the upcoming story, launching a new DCU and telling the greatest story ever told in multiple films, TV shows and animated projects.”
Gunn, who shares the duties of CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, is a huge fan favorite around the world, including those who want the future of DC and the return of the canceled Legends of Tomorrow. “At the end of a long creative weekend, I opened Twitter to see many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow and #ReleaseTheAyerCut, as well as fan support for other DC projects over the years. It was a show of respect.” Gunn said. “As the new (and first-ever) CEO of DC Studios, I think it’s important for Peter and I to thank our fans and let them know that we are listening to your various wishes for DC’s future path. .”
Gunn has been outspoken on social media for years, but with this new role, he’s clearly busier than usual. Nonetheless, he wanted to tell these fans where the head of the studio was and what its current mission was.
“Although our ability to interact on Twitter has diminished as the burden of our new role has increased, we are listening and open to all as we embark on this journey and will continue to do so for years to come,” Gunn said. “But our initial focus is all on launching a new DCU and telling the biggest story ever told across multiple movies, TV shows and animated projects. invites all DC fandom from across the Multiverse—and everyone else—to this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.
Gunn will be responsible for the creative side of DC Studios and Safran will be responsible for the business side of the company. Gunn will continue to direct films as co-CEO, and his initial contract is expected to last at least four years.
