Launched in 2020, the Irish womenswear collection was debuted by Dublin designer Róisín Pierce, showcasing a range of cowl neck dresses, boxy blouses and bridal veils. Most notable for its stark white aesthetic and sustainable approach, the piercing brand was created by three generations of Irish lacemakers who teamed up to create scalloped edges, swirls and cascading flowers using deadstock and recycled materials. From crocheted lace to ruffled lace to lace-embroidered flowers, Róisín Pierce has used lace in innovative and unimaginable ways. Roysin Pierce’s team described it as, “This collection traverses the history of censorship and control, with an eye to government and the Catholic Church.” To stay on topic, Róisín Pierce’s presentation was held inside his Church of the Americane in Paris, so you can really see the dynamic forces at work in women’s oppression and women’s empowerment.
It was liberating to see designer Roysyn Pierce take a stand and create a new narrative, drawing attention to the lack of freedom for women in Ireland. It’s essential to have designers who stand out and fight for the cause in innovative ways. We should all start by taking notes from Róisín Pierce, as she purposefully understands the power of her role.
