Jenna Ortega revealed she had one line Wednesday what she refused to say.
The 20-year-old actor plays Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series. This is a new reconstruction of Charles His Addams’ iconic Addams Family.
The line in question appears in the fourth episode of the series, based on her school’s annual dance.
Wednesday is seen looking up at a dress in an antique shop window while out with Thing.
Later in the episode, she is rummaging around her room for something to wear and realizes Thing has stolen the dress for her.
She gives a grateful look to her disembodied hand – but it turns out Ortega had a line during the sequence.
“I remember one line where I was talking about the dress. At first she should have said, ‘Oh my God, the dress made me crazy. I hate it,'” the actor said in a Netflix Q&A.
“And it was like… such a bunch of little things that blew me away,” she explained. She “felt like she could have avoided a lot of dialogue in order to humanize her voice.”
Fans of the series praised Ortega for making the cut, with many agreeing that it didn’t work for her normally expressionless character.
“Sometimes you have to give credit to the actors who know their characters better than the writers,” one fan wrote on TikTok.
That same episode featured the series’ most talked-about scene, where Wednesday dances at the school prom.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Ortega said she I can’t sleep for days before shooting the dance scene.
“What a fool I felt,” she said. “I’m not a dancer. I don’t do that. I have no experience in that field. Then I couldn’t sleep for two days.”
Wednesday is a smash hit on Netflix and recently beat serial killer drama Dahmer A major viewership milestone.
